From the Super

By Dave Rokusek

March 14, 2008

From the Super March 12, 2008 Dave Rokusek Last week we celebrated Theodore Geisel’s birthday, better known as Dr. Seuss. Many of you remember his books. One of my favorites is a standard called “Green Eggs and Ham.” On Monday all 7-12 students went to the elementary and read with elementary students. Mr. Kiesel, media specialist, dressed up in a costume and became the famous “Cat in the Hat” conducting an elementary assembly explaining the importance and enjoyment of reading, encouraging students to continue to learn to read. Classroom activities continued throughout the week and in some cases will go on through the month of March. Thanks to all the teachers and students who made this a special week for emphasizing reading. We all realize how important reading is. In today’s technological society reading interest can be difficult to develop and maintain. Television and electronic games compete for student and adult time and often wins out. Reading can take work and concentration. Students can easily choose to take the easier route and do something else. In school our teachers always encourage reading and structure time for it to happen.. Parents do the same and are encouraged to continue your efforts. The benefits of reading will pay big benefits for your child confidence, self concept, and knowledge as a child through adulthood. Take care and stay in touch! And as Dr. Seuss says-“ A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
