At the last regular board meeting in December the board employed Engineering Technologies Inc. to draw up specifications and bid documents for replacing parts of the current HVAC system in the high school. The system was installed in 1970 and has been providing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning since that time. Prior to my arrival it was discussed as a system that needed to be replaced. An upgraded system would provide better indoor air quality for classrooms through better temperature and humidity control, lower classroom noise and the provision of continuous, conditioned outside air into the classrooms. In Phase I of this project, which is the current project being discussed for summer installation, new water source heat pumps would be provided for the primary classrooms and administration areas. Hallways, commons area, auditorium, and the HS gymnasium would not be affected by the new HVAC system and could be addressed in the future.
By employing Engineering Technologies Inc., bids can be selected or rejected in March thus allowing time for summer installation. The project is estimated to be from $850,000 to $1,000,000 depending on the alternates selected. A favorable bidding climate seems to exist thus affecting the cost. The district would finance the project through the Qualified Capital Building Fund by issuing low interest or no interest “Build American Bonds” or “Qualified School Construction Bonds” up to approximately 5.2 cents levy. This can be done by the board of education. It is estimated that the bonds could paid off in six years. Should you have further questions or comments talk to me or one of the board members.
So what is happing in the superintendent search? After rescheduling the focus group meetings due to the winter storms we are back on schedule. Thanks to all that came to the meetings and gave your input. I plan to highlight some of the positive things said about our school and community at a later date. Following the closing of applications on January 22nd the board will select four finalists in early February. The board will then interview the four candidates during the third and fourth week of February. If at that point a candidate can be selected a contract will be offered. The new superintendent will then come on board on July 1st.
Our thought for this week comes from a book “45 lessons life taught me” by Regina Brett. “No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, and show up.” Take care and stay in touch.
