The Annual Spring Banquet of the Wilber-Clatonia FFA Chapter was held on Monday, April 19.
We began the evening with a delicious meal of pork loin, donated by Farmland and lots of goodies provided by members’ families.
We enjoyed having with us Mr. Dave Thorell of KRVN Radio in Lexington, NE. Dave shared with us several entertaining stories about the lessons he’s learned throughout his 60 years of life in agriculture.
The evening contained a great deal of celebration and we’re thankful for all who were able to attend. Not a seat in the commons area was open and many of them were filled with FFA Alumni members. The Alumni presented three scholarship awards during the banquet. The results are as follows:
$1,000 FFA Alumni Scholarship: Bailey Horak
$500 FFA Alumni Foundation Scholarship: Jenny Birkett
$250 FFA Alumni Betterment Scholarship, awarded to all 4-year FFA members: Taylor Riechers, Justin Rezabek, Bailey Horak, Shelby Hajek and Jenny Birkett

This year’s Star Greenhand was Russell Korinek. This award is given to first year FFA members based on FFA involvement and SAE development. In addition, there were two Chapter Stars in Production awarded as well. These individuals were Ethan Schroder and Joe Duba. Both of these students have developed exceptional SAE programs.
Jenny Birkett was awarded the 2010 Dekalb Award which is based on leadership, scholarship, SAE development and FFA involvement. Bailey Horak earned the local Workhorse Award for some of the same qualities.
The last award of the evening before officer installation went to Faith Huneke, for top fund raiser for her work selling FFA fruit this past fall.
During the banquet we also had a chance to hear from Mark Noble, Nebraska FFA Foundation Board Representative. He encouraged those in the position to donate monetarily to the FFA to do so as often as possible. It is through the funds raised by the Foundation that FFA members are able to have as many opportunities as they do.
